My Capstone Collection, “Surprise Yourself” illustrates the changes and challenges in coming of age. Utilizing youthful and oversized silhouettes with nostalgic, heavy fabrics represents the unwillingness to let go and the many moments that somehow feel like the end of the universe. 3D printed chrome embellishments show the bittersweet richness of this time and relate to the impact of technology on the adolescent mind. Furthermore, the shapes act as recurring symbols, alluding to the childhood wonder of protection charms.
"Surprise Yourself" is a nod to inviting more self compassion to the table, to embracing the good, the bad and imperfectness of the seasons. It is the little moments of looking back and finding yourself pleasantly surprised.
